Chapter 28

“I might not have spoken with the Ghost King, but I am very familiar regarding everything about him.” Fengguang’s tone was steady and resolute. She had long read through all the information about the male lead inside the system. No one ever considered that a young lady would investigate her fiance. “Hm,” the man replied, as though accepting her explanation. “Might I ask how your relationship is with the Ghost King?” “The Ghost King has been at war for many years. Even though he is my cousin, the only few times I’ve seen him is usually at a palace banquet.” That is to say their relationship wasn’t much. “Then you need to work harder,” he said with a smile that wasn’t a smile. “Work harder to capture the Ghost King’s heart.” “No need for such effort.” Her expression was neutral. He gave a slight smile with his eyes closed as though he was resting. An urgent voice disturbed the peace from outside their carriage. “Master, please get out of the carriage. Let this subordinate lead the soldiers away.” The man opened his eyes and released Fengguang’s pressure point so she could move but also quickly pressed her pressure point for her voice. With one hand on her wrist, he led her off the carriage. Fengguang saw that the driver of the carriage was a handsome young man. “Seven, we’ll meet up in the Guanghe desert.” “Yes!” The young man who was called Seven drove the carriage in a different direction. They were in the woods. The man pulled Fengguang to crouch with him in front of a tree, his hand tightly gripping on her wrist. She felt weak. Not long after, a group of men on horses arrived. The leader saw the carriage trails and waved his hand as he ordered, “They went in that direction! Continue chasing!” The group of men left as quickly as they came, riding on their horses and leaving behind only dust. After they were gone, the man pulled Fengguang up. He complimented her, “Not bad. You’re pretty obedient.” Fengguang remained silent. He suddenly remembered that he had pinpointed her vocal pressure point and he let go of her hand to release that point. Fengguang instantly coughed out and took a step back. “Who are you?” “All you need to know is that I’m not a good person.” He mildly laughed. He wasn’t willing to answer and she didn’t linger on the question. “Since you’ve made it out of the imperial city, I can leave now.” “Not yet, not until I’ve safely reached Guanghe Desert, then you can leave.” The Guanghe Desert was the middle ground between Dawei and Guangliu. “That’s not what you said at the palace gates.” “You believe a man’s word? You still haven’t experienced the world enough.” He shook his head as though in pity for her. He successfully made the young girl in front of him bite her lips in frustration and he laughed. “Alright, let’s start our journey. Don’t try to run because if I’m not happy, I’ll skewer you on my sword and bring you away that way.” Fengguang shivered all over and in her heart, she cursed. Sick pervert! They were currently in the outskirts of the imperial city and in order to get to the next town, they had to cross the forest. It was the middle of the night and the moon was emitting a frosty aura as the wind blew past the trees, making a sound of shaking leaves. Fengguang tried to keep a three-step distance from the man but couldn’t help but stay one step closer than she intended. Compared to the unknown and things like ghosts, the person in front of her seemed more stable and reliable, even if the man wasn’t a good person. After two hours of walking, they finally reached a dilapidating temple. The man saw that the rich miss seemed to be lacking in physical ability. She was swaying as she walked so he generously said to her, “We’ll rest here tonight.” Fengguang let out a breath of relief. He started a fire and sat, leaning against the wall. He closed his eyes as though she wasn’t there. He didn’t seem worried at all if she would run or maybe he was confident that she wouldn’t be able to run off if she tried.
